There once was a hare that took great pride in his ability to run quickly. He teased the turtle a lot about how slow it was. The tortoise once challenged the hare to a race after growing weary of his taunting. The hare scoffed at the notion, but he agreed to take the risk.

When the race started, the hare moved out in front of the tortoise very quickly. Satisfied with his victory, the rabbit chose to rest behind a tree. The tortoise, meanwhile, continued to move steadily and slowly without ever pausing or turning around.

The tortoise was getting close to the finish line when the hare woke up from his snooze. Even though the hare sprinted as quickly as he could, it was too late. The tortoise won the race since it was the first to cross the finish line.

The rabbit felt ashamed and astonished. He was now aware that consistency is the key to winning. "It doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you do not stop," the smiling tortoise remarked.

The lesson of the story is that perseverance pays off.
